About the Foundry

Marmite Defontes is a digital type foundry founded by Guillaume Berry. The font catalogue focuses on display typefaces: letters, symbols and glyphs families that have a strong visual impact and are expressive. Marmite Defontes licenses are only available through this website.

A key foundational principle for the foundry is ‘serious fun’ (like the motto of the Japanese video game company Natsume). Serious about making quality font software. Fonts that are fun to design and fun to use.

The FAQ page of the website regroups common questions about purchase, usage and licensing of the fonts. We invite you to read our license (the End User License Agreement - EULA), there’s a summary of what you can do, the complete license and a two-page PDF version.

For any information about licensing, custom projects or crêpe recipes, please contact us.

Foundry’s name

Marmite: the container. Where you cook your recipes and that you serve to clients (and their clients), and friends, and family.

Defontes: it is be the name of a distant ancestor or the former Duke of Fonteshire. Or maybe a limousine rental company, or a jazz club in Brooklyn, or a manufacturer of spoons and kettles. Who knows…

Nerdy detail: the Vendor ID for the foundry is MADE. The fact that it is not ‘just’ an acronym but that it reflects the craft of making fonts is intentional. #Homemade

Thank You Note

My deep appreciation to some people close and far, involved or supporting – in their own way – this foundry. In no particular order: Claudia & Gilles, Jérémie, Francis, Chiara & Fede, Darja, Thomas, Nhung & Marc, Gweno, Sara & James, People from the Practica Program starting with Nicole & Sol, Ana Sofia, Noheul & Loris, Rainer, Thierry, Tom (Fontdue for the Win), my former and amazing colleagues and friends at Antistatique. And of course, my family. I'm very grateful to have you around.
